George Keeley is a beer bar, we all know that. But it’s also a dart bar, with three teams playing in the New York Dart Organization‘s 2006 Fall Season (www.nydo.com). The Dartbags, which plays in the Monday night A League, The Reds, which plays in the Monday night C League, and Zorro’s Lunchbox, which plays in the Tuesday night C League, all began their seasons last week. Here are the results for Sept.18 and Sept. 19.

THE DARTBAGS (16) vs. WHO DARTED? (8)

The Dartbags, lead by team captain Frank "Capt. Furious" Murtha, opened the season at home with an impressive win against a very formidable opponent, the guys from Flannery‘s on West 14th Street. (See Capt. Furious’ blog at www.dartbags.blogspot.com for a more detailed description of the action.)

Playing in the Monday night opener were Capt. Furious; "Cuppa" Joe Gasparino; Tim "BFT" Sheehan; Glenn "In Your Hole" (or is that XXX) Pike, and Marty "Farty" Yoo. The Dartbags took an early 2-1 lead with Capt. Furious coming from behind as he and his opponent shot less than mid-season form during their Singles 501 match. But what do you expect on opening night? The play got better with Cuppa Joe taking two to give the home team a 4-2 lead. It continued through the night, with the Home Boys never trailing in the match.

There were some serious highlights, with Cuppa Joe getting on the board with a double 20, a Trip 19, followed by another Trip 19 for 154 points in Doubles 501. Nice. The top all star points were Cuppa 559; Pike 408; Frank 311, and BFT 209.

ZORRO’S LUNCHBOX (8) vs. CORK BOMBERS (10)

Zorro’s Lunchbox started its season at home Tuesday night, losing a close opener. Jesse Edelman and his gang gave a good show, tying the Cork Bombers 6-6 through six games of Singles 501 and six games of Double Cricket.

It was during Doubles 501, where games are worth 2 points each instead of the customary 1, that the Blarney Stone Bunch put Zorro’s Lunchbox away. The visiting team took two of the three games for the margin of victory. Nonetheless, Zorro’s lunchbox, which, like Keeley’s other teams, didn’t make the playoffs during the spring season hung in until the very end. Tuesday’s match brought hope to Zorro’s Lunchbox and suggested that this season might be a lot better

THE REDS (13) vs. DIAMOND DARTS (3)

The Reds started their season by going downtown for an uptown win. Playing at Finnerty’s Irish Pub on Second Avenue between 13th and 14th Streets, The Reds opened Singles 501 by starting two rookies, Adam Reynolds and Aaron Page, alias "The Boston Boys."

Adam, though suffering from a little rookie jitters, split his two games and even scored a Ton for his first All Star points. Aaron won both his matches, getting All Star points in each. The good play continued with James "Capt. J" Langstine winning both his matches, hitting a Ton 35 and a Ton in the process. Kevin Parker was also hot, taking both his games to give The Reds a 7-1 lead going into Doubles Cricket.

The Reds fielded Reggie Thomas and Sergio Jaramillo first in Doubles Cricket, with Sergio the Rookie carrying Reggie on his back in the first game, which The Reds won. In the second game, Sergio must have felt that Bob Dylan was wrong, "He is heavy, even if he is my dart brother." Sergio and Reggie dropped the second game. The Boston Boys were most impressive, taking both their games to give The Reds a 10-2 lead.

The trend continued in Double 501 with James and Sergio splitting their two games, and Kevin Parker and Reggie Thomas winning their two matches. Both games were won after Kevin and Reggie worked their way down to 5. In the first match, Reggie hit a Single 1 and a Double 2 to seal the victory. In the second, Reggie, faced with 5 again, went up top in an effort to repeat his previous success. Instead he tripped, leaving Kevin with a Double 1 for the out. KP hit it.
